What is Reiki?

The laying of hands for comfort or pain relief is an ancient instinct. Human touch conveys caring and love, warmth, serenity and healing. The loving act of touch is the basis for all spiritual healing techniques.

Life Force Energy is radiated from the living body as warmth and energy. It is called Ki, Chi, Prana, or Manna, original energy, vital essence or activating universal energy. In Reiki, this energy is called 'Ki'.

Ki is an essential phenomenon. It is a type of energy that determines the fundamental state of health and vitality in all life forms. Reiki works to enhance and conserve Ki by directing its movement in the body. Ki is the life force of the universe, the source of original energy. Everything that is living radiates Ki. It is the bio magnetic origin of the aura. When Ki departs the living body, life ceases.

There are differences between Reiki and other touch-healing methods. In Reiki the practitioner does not take on other people's symptoms.

The process of attunement also makes it different. It is the attunements and signs themselves that are considered Reiki. Everything that has life has Ki. Reiki attunements connect the practitioner to the limitless source in an increased way. Once you have received the attunements you will be connected with the universal healing energy, throughout your life, simply by placing your hands on yourself or another living being. Attunement also increases your life force energy. As you experience the healing energy, for yourself, or to help others, you are aware of this gift that forever changes your life in a positive way. Anyone can use the healing gift by making a simple commitment to their own health by connecting to their own spiritual source.

Reiki Basics

With practice you will be able to do Reiki anytime. As you learn new skills it is good to honour yourself and the divine with your full attention. Allow yourself to be in a safe, quiet place. Put distractions aside.

In Reiki it is important for the receiver (or client) to understand the healing process and to take part in becoming responsible for their own healing. Reiki practitioners are not healers; the divine is the healer. To give spiritual healing or share Reiki with another it is good to settle into a prayerful or meditative mode. Taking a deep breath and imagine the Creator sending endless unconditional love to you and all the earth. Wrap yourself in loving, trusting belief.

How to Begin

Begin with...I thankfully accept this gift and feel a beautiful light coming from above, as it surrounds my body. Take 2 or 3 deep cleansing breaths. From the center of this light a warm vibrant ray of (Ki) energy flows down and enters my body. I feel peaceful. Ki moves through my head, entirely filling my skull and my neck. It continues to brilliantly fill my chest, stomach, abdomen, and moves into my legs and feet. As Ki reaches my feet it turns and moves up my legs, back and chest, shoulders and arms, radiantly flowing into my hands and fingers. This beam of light fills my body with overflowing energy, some of it also given to the Earth. My hands become brilliant with Ki. I receive the blessings of Life Force Energy. As I place my hands on, the Ki flows through me to the receiver. This Ki cycle continues as I place my hands on the different body positions. Reiki self-healing is wonderfully effective as Ki cycles through the body and continues to flow through more and more circuits.

Grounding

Self-preservation is a fundamental human action. We all are spiritual beings, but we are in a physical form and bound by the physical Laws of the Universe. When practicing and energy healing it is good to establish a 'ground' to assist you in removing excess and negative energy. Being grounded balances the flow of energy and helps you and others you may treat. It is a simple process that can be done at anytime.

Root your feet into the Earth Mother. Envision sending roots deeply into the earth. Create two separate cords that will connect you deeply to the molten core of the earth. The first cord brings loving energy. You may begin to feel warmth. Negative energy and impediments are removed through the second cord. This is recycled as useful energy for healing the planet. Unite with the Creator to finalize grounding. You now are in energetic balance, being celestially and terrestrially stabilized. You are safe and neutral, so the Ki flow will not be blocked.

Grounding is temporary. Reground with each new client, in any setting. You may need to reground during a treatment. This is easy to accomplish by severing the cords and sending them quickly and deeply into the earth's core. Again, establish your connection as above.

You can establish a ground for yourself or others at anytime. If this is not done for the highest and best purpose of the other person, pet, plant, etc., grounding will not take place. Most living things on our planet welcome the resourceful experience and activation of healing with grace and thankfulness.

Keep Breathing

Breathing benefits the whole body. It boosts energy, reduces stress, supports pain reduction and promotes comfort and safety. Deep breathing helps keep you clear and centered. It reinforces personal discipline and promotes recovery, healing and wellness. The easiest stress reduction technique is proper breathing. When breathing is slow and paced, we encounter balance and relaxation.

The Seven Minute Exercise

Practice this at bedtime, or at any time you desire, in order to reduce stress, or for calming.

Sit down comfortably and close your eyes. Place one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest. Imagine a large balloon in your stomach. Breathe in slowly while using the following technique. Inhale through your nose. Imagine the balloon completely filling up, as your diaphragm pushes downward. Breathe in slowly to the count of 4, and then hold your breath to the count of 4.

Exhale s-l-o-w-l-y. Allow all the air to flow out of your mouth. Do not force it. Exhale to the count of 4 with tranquil deep breaths. Count to 10 after completely exhaling.

Repeat this deep breathing exercise 10 times, counting down from 10 to 1 after each completed breath. With practice you will soon be able to be relaxed and tranquil with one or two deep breaths. You can say Peace, Joy, Health, and Happiness as you exhale.

Do not underestimate this tremendous healing influence. Teach it to anyone wanting to learn.
